Does anyone know what happened to Steve?

From BOB ALEXANDER

I wanted to let you know that I do not believe the year of Steve's passing shown on the Class of 1969 website is correct. The website shows it as 1968. I know he passed several years after we graduated from high school. I have done some checking and I am fairly certain it was on September 21, 1971. I do believe that in any event the year was 1971.

Just thought I would let you know. Both of his parents have passed now. His mother died in 1987, and his dad passed in 2007. His brother John lives in Dallas, and I spoke with him when Steve's dad died.

I believe Stevie died from a drug overdose. I saw him a few weeks before he died and when I asked about him in Austin that is what I was told. 😔

Nice to see the posts from both Bob and Barbara, yep, still miss him and think about him more than often.  His mother gave me his D35 Martin guitar after his passing and it still sits on a stand in my office proudly.  I grab it frequently and strum aggressively all in the name of ROCK & ROLL and little STEVIE!!!  Peace, Sandy Stokes
