Porter Loring Mortuary - McCullough

Cheryl Caran Wilson, 75, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 24, 2025, at her home in San Antonio, Texas, with her devoted husband, Jerry Wilson, at her side.

Born in San Antonio on February 21, 1950, to Robert and Betty Caran, Cheryl graduated from Alamo Heights High School and later attended Texas Tech University.

Following her education, Cheryl built her career in Houston, Texas, working for Transco Pipeline Company. After 30 retirement, with 30+ years working in Houston, Cheryl moved home to San Antonio.

Cheryl loved to vacation and spend time in Rockport, Texas, where she built lifelong memories with family and friends. It was a place of joy, relaxation, and togetherness for her. She had a deep love for her dogs, her family, and the many people she called friends. A devoted wife, sister, aunt, and friend, Cheryl was loved by all who knew her. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and lived her life with kindness, grace, and compassion.

She faced a difficult journey after being diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare neurological disease. Cheryl met this challenge with strength and dignity, fighting fiercely until the very end. Her unwavering Christian faith gave her peace, knowing she would be welcomed into the presence of her Lord and Savior. We are comforted in knowing that she is now whole, free from pain, and at rest.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Caaran, Betty Caran Coffman and stepfather, Dr, Graham Coffman; brother-in-law, Scott Wilson; stepsister, Margaret Coffman Roulette; and stepbrother, Graham Coffman Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Wilson; sister, Sandie Caran Cox; brother, Robert Caran and his wife Nanette; and sister-in-law, Dee Ann Wilson. She leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews Annalynn Cox (Carl Swanson), Brice Cox Jr. (Robyn), Austin and Jordan Jensen, Amy Wilson Berg (Josh), and Courtney Wilson Pruitt (Grant); as well as great-nieces and nephews Alexander and Ryan Swanson, Laurel and Audrey Jayne Cox, Wilson and Lorraine Berg, and Georgia, Grant Jr., and Hallie Pruitt. She is also survived by step-nieces Julianne Cary (Mark) and Lauren Braun (William).

The family wishes to recognize Cheryl’s lifelong friends, Shellie Smith Yokum and Jamie Smith Jackson, whose steadfast love and friendship were a constant source of joy and strength throughout her life.

The family would also like to thank Dr. Jeremy Tanner, Dr. Angelica Davila, and Dr. Paul Smith Jr. for their guidance and care, along with Cheryl’s in-home care team who became like family: Arasely Renteria, Carmel Henderson, Debra Cochran, Delores Moreno, Elizabeth Hudson, and Calandra Warner. They cared for Cheryl with such love, compassion, and devotion. The family is profoundly grateful to them—and to the many others who stood by Cheryl during her journey. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

A private celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held later this fall in Rockport, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases (https://lsom.uthscsa.edu/biggs/), Alamo Heights United Methodist Church (https://www.ahumc.org/), or a charity of one’s choice.
