I hung around with Valerie for a while in high school. She was always smiling, happy, and almost always laughing about something. That's probably why I was drawn to her. When I went on the tour of the high school on Saturday morning I went by the place where we had walked so many times and was reminded of the time we were walking along, talking, and she was laughing, laughing so much in fact that she didn't watch where she was going. I heard a thump and looked over to find she was not beside me any more. The next place to look was back only to find that she had run right into one of the poles holding up those covers over the sidewalks. It hit her squarely in the forehead, but she never missed a beat and just kept laughing....................so what was I to do? I laughed too! I said goodbye to her there, on that sidewalk, at that pole, 40 years later. Goodbye, Valerie, you made me happy. Thank you.
