My best memories of Steve were the fun times we shared in V.O.E. class. We worked half day at the downtown Dun & Bradstreet office and I would hitch a ride with him in his Dodge Dart listening to the 8 track of Steppenwolf. He is missed! ... Leo Tamez

I sat next to Steve for all too many years from grade school at Cambridge on, in the clarinet section. He was always kind and sweet.

Anyone know what happened?

Back in the 70's I heard, so it's not for sure, that Steve was killed in an auto accident in San Antonio when he lost control of his vehicle on I35. Person who told me this didn't know exactly why, perhaps he fell asleep or was putting a tape in the player, just not sure.

I knew Steve from being in the band. Steve and I would frequently drive off campus to have lunch together with some other friends. He was always smiling his impish smile and was a joy to be around. I miss him.

Steve and I were best friends for years. When he died I felt like I lost a part of me. Ron Mcatee

Steve died in a car accident just north of Boerne on Dec. 9, 1976. . He was playing in a band that night in Fredericksburg and was returning to San Antonio.  Apparently, he fell asleep in his car and ran off the road into Little Joshua Creek. He was found the following morning when a school bus drove over the creek on a bridge and saw the car at the bottom of the ravine. He is buried with his parents in Madison County, Iowa.

I knew Steve from about 8th grade until my early 20's.  He was such a great guy. I was at his house on Ogden Lane many times and enjoyed riding in his red Barracuda! Great memories but gone too soon!

I found this on Ancestry.com:
